Our Veterinarians - at work
Dr David Moroney has been with Peninsula Animal Hospital (or Mount Eliza
Veterinary Clinic) since the early eighties after having worked in Canada and
the UK. He took over running of the clinic in 1987 and has been here ever
since.
David's main interests are in surgery, in particular orthopaedic surgery,
internal medicine, and he has a particular interest in diseases affecting
endurance dogs such as sled dogs. In following this interest, he has vetted at a
number of sled dog races in the USA, Canada, and Alaska, and has been
involved with the famous Iditarod Sled Dog Race on three occasions and also the Yukon Quest Sled Dog race in Canada. He is also
the vet for Australia's only sled dog race on snow at Dinner Plain.
David is married to Debbie and lives locally on a small farm surrounded by cats, dogs, chooks and ponies. They have three grown up kids, Stewart, Catherine and Elizabeth. David's hobbies include bushwalking, sled dogs, woodwork and playing his guitar. |

Dr Gordon Watt has been with the Peninsula Animal Hospital since December 1990.
when he came to work as an assistant to David Moroney.
He had a brief spell back in the
UK in 1992, before coming back to Mount Eliza later in the year to go into partnership
with David. Gordon qualified in 1983 from Glascow Veterinary School in Scotland,
worked in the Yorkshire Dales for two and a half years, where he advised on James
Heriot's television series 'All Creatures Great and Small'. In 1986 Australia beckoned, so
he made the trip with some veterinary colleagues for a year's working holiday and never
went home.
Gordon's special veterinary interests include internal medicine and soft tissue surgery.
He is married to Megan, and they have two children Katy and Sandy; and Gus
the Labrador, Diva the Jack Russell and two moggies Hughie and Agnes. Gordon's

Dr Colin Trott Colin Trott has taken a year's sabbatical to spend some time helping orphan wildlife in East Africa, and also to further his interest in surgery by spending some time with orthopaedic specialists. He will be back in May 2011.

Dr Rob Irvin Dr Rob Irvin is a Melbourne graduate who has worked on the Peninsula for the past 10 years. Rob's
veterinary interests include small animal medicine
and radiology, opthalmology and he has recently developed an interest in rabbit medicine and surgery. Rob originally grew up on the land
in Southern NSW. He lives in Mornington and is married
to Jos and they now have 2 young children, Bethany and a new arrival, Tom. They also have Ben, the labrador and Megs the cat. Rob's hobbies include playing the drums,
going to the movies and walking the dog.

Dr Gemma Birnie Gemma graduated in 2009 from Massey University in New Zealand. Gemma is very familiar with Peninsula Animal Hospital, having worked as a kennel nurse, vet nurse, receptionist and as a vet student before finally making the grade as a vet. She went to school locally at Toorak College before going to New Zealand to study. Gemma is interested in emergency medicine and surgery and hopes to follow up these interests in the future.

Dr Peter Trinder Peter is a Melbourne graduate who arrived on the Peninsula in January 2006. He is married to Amanda and they have a young baby daughter called Hazel. They also have two Russian Blue cats called Amelie and Gulliver. Peter's main interest is feline internal medicine and he also enjoys doing surgery. His hobbies include basketball and golf.

Dr Kirsten Bird Kirsten graduated from Melbourne University in 1995 and has worked at Peninsula Animal Hospital since 1998. She has a special interest in animal behaviour and in reptiles. Kirsten works most Saturday mornings and is always happy to give advice on animal behaviour. Kirsten lives in Mount Eliza, is married to Chris and they have two young sons, Stephen and Nathan as well as numerous reptiles, frogs and fish.
