Our Veterinarians - at work

It wasn't me Dr David Moroney has been with Peninsula Animal Hospital (or Mount Eliza Veterinary Clinic) since the early eighties after having worked in Canada and the UK. He took over running of the clinic in 1987 and has been here ever since.
David's main interests are in surgery, in particular orthopaedic surgery, internal medicine, and he has a particular interest in diseases affecting endurance dogs such as sled dogs. In following this interest, he has vetted at a number of sled dog races in the USA, Canada, and Alaska, and has been involved with the famous Iditarod Sled Dog Race on three occasions and also the Yukon Quest Sled Dog race in Canada. He is also the vet for Australia's only sled dog race on snow at Dinner Plain.

David is married to Debbie and lives locally on a small farm surrounded by cats, dogs, chooks and ponies. They have three grown up kids, Stewart, Catherine and Elizabeth. David's hobbies include bushwalking, sled dogs, woodwork and playing his guitar.

 Dr Gordon Watt has been with the Peninsula Animal Hospital since December 1990. when he came to work as an assistant to David Moroney.
He had a brief spell back in the UK in 1992, before coming back to Mount Eliza later in the year to go into partnership with David. Gordon qualified in 1983 from Glascow Veterinary School in Scotland, worked in the Yorkshire Dales for two and a half years, where he advised on James Heriot's television series 'All Creatures Great and Small'. In 1986 Australia beckoned, so he made the trip with some veterinary colleagues for a year's working holiday and never went home.

Gordon's special veterinary interests include internal medicine and soft tissue surgery. He is married to Megan, and they have two children Katy and Sandy; and Gus the Labrador, Diva the Jack Russell and one moggie called Agnes. Gordon's hobbies include golf, volleyball and reading

 Dr Colin Trott Colin is a local Rosebud lad who started his veterinary career in 2002 at Peninsula Animal Hospital. Since then he has travelled extensively including working in Africa and Asia, but has now returned from his travels and is back with renewed enthusiasm. He is keen to continue his interest in surgery, particularly orthopaedics and has successfully completed many spinal, hip and knee surgeries.

Colin likes to live dangerously and enjoys trail biking, snowboarding and volleyball.

Dr Rob Irvin

 

 Dr Rob Irvin Rob is a Melbourne graduate who has lived on the Peninsula for the past 12 years. His main veterinary interest is animal behaviour, but also enjoys internal medicine and rabbit medicine and surgery. Rob is married to Joss and they live near Tyabb with their two young children, Bethany and Tom. Rob has Megs the cat and his hobbies include playing the drums and going to the movies.

 Dr Gemma Birnie Gemma graduated in 2009 from Massey University in New Zealand. Gemma is very familiar with Peninsula Animal Hospital, having worked as a kennel nurse, vet nurse, receptionist and as a vet student before finally making the grade as a vet. She went to school locally at Toorak College before going to New Zealand to study. Gemma is interested in emergency medicine and surgery and hopes to follow up these interests in the future.

You may have seen Gemma or her mum Philippa walking around the village with their Scottish Deerhound called Scrappy.

Dr Peter Trinder
 

 Dr Peter Trinder Pete lives locally in Frankston and is married to Amanda who is also a vet and they have a young daughter called Hazel. Their pets are Amalie the Russian Blue and Barnaby, a Burmese. His main veterinary interest in feline internal medicine and when he is not working enjoys a game of basketball and occasionally strays onto the golf course.

 Dr Kirsten Bird Kirsten graduated from Melbourne University in 1995 and has worked at Peninsula Animal Hospital since 1998. She has a special interest in animal behaviour and in reptiles. Kirsten works most Saturday mornings and is always happy to give advice on animal behaviour. Kirsten lives in Mount Eliza, is married to Chris and they have two young sons, Stephen and Nathan as well as numerous reptiles, frogs and fish.
